Returns

The Returns Filing section allows you to file/amend your Sales Tax Return

Phoenix Tax and License Online helps in filing the Return Form by automatically populating the account details in addition to computing the amounts due. To file a return:

  • Click on Returns link listed at the top of the page. The screen displays a dropdown list of valid tax periods to select from.
  • Select the tax period for which you would like to file a Return. When you click ‘Select’, the Return screen is displayed.
  • Select the Return Type from the drop-down. The default is set to Original (1st filing for the period); otherwise select Amend from the drop-down. Filing an amended tax return for a period requires explanation.
  • Provide your Gross Sales for each applicable Business Description.
  • Click ‘Deductions’. It opens a popup (titled Schedule A) where you can enter your allowed deductions. Enter your data in the fields. When finished, a sum of the deductions is shown.
  • If you would like to claim a valid credit to take against tax due click 'Credit'. It opens a popup (titled Schedule B) that allows entry into the field.
    • If you report under the Speculative Builder category, you may enter a credit for City taxes paid to contractors or materials suppliers, not to exceed the amount otherwise due on the return. A sum of the credits entered is populated in the Credit field.

  • Click ‘Excess Tax Collected’. It opens a popup (titled Schedule C) that will display any excess tax calculated based on the tax collected reported on Schedule A and the Gross Income for the class code.
    • If your claimed tax collected deduction is greater than the combined state, county and city tax due on taxable income, the City portion of this excess amount is what shows here. You may close this window and correct your gross income or deductions if they are in error or you included tax collected for income related to other cities.
    • If you collected excess tax, you can enter that here. When finished, a sum of the excess tax collected is populated in the Excess Tax Field.

  • Click Compute to view the tax due for your return. Please note that penalty and interest is not calculated in e~tax. If applicable, these will appear on your mailed account statement.
  • To submit your return, please read the statement at the bottom, check the box and press the Submit button.
  • You may pay the return by clicking on the Payment button and following the online instructions immediately after submitting your return.
